The Tierra del Sol Foundation was founded in Sunland, CA, in 1971. Originally conceived by parents as an alternative to institutional care, Tierra began as an early demonstration of self-advocacy. With a mission to champion inclusion and value for all people with disabilities through creative pathways to employment, education, and the arts, Tierra del Sol has grown into a leading provider of transition- based services for individuals with disabilities, including workforce development, college and career support, and the arts. They currently support 170 students at 8 local colleges, 111 competitively paid employees at 31 businesses, 630 professional volunteers at 130 non- profit organizations, and 142 career artists exhibiting locally, nationally, and globally.
