Info about the Conference:

Join educators and families at the 2026 Tools for the Journey Conference, on SATURDAY, JANUARY 30, 2027. Attendees will receive education and tools for supporting individuals with Down syndrome and other disabilities following best practice methods for the classroom, community, and beyond. We will host presenters from all over the country and they will share their expertise and innovative, research-based strategies on a variety of topics across all ages and stages.  More information on speakers to come!

Keynote Speakers:

Khalilah R. Johnson, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA is an Associate Professor of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, owner of #SlayingAcademia™, LLC, and co-host of the Dr. thOTs Podcast. Her research focuses on intellectual and developmental disabilities, anti-racism, health equity, disability justice, and racial equity in occupational therapy education. Drawing on 20 years of clinical experience, Dr. Johnson’s work has been recognized by the American Occupational Therapy Association, American Occupational Therapy Foundation, and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. She also serves on national editorial and advisory boards in occupational therapy and IDD.

Cameron Hollister, MSW, is a proud member of Dr. Brianne Tomaszewski’s SPACE lab within the research arm of the University of North Carolina TEACCH Autism Program. They assist with research projects that involve studying and increasing the expression of agency in adults with I/DD, through employment and other means of community involvement. Cameron’s research passion is qualitative data analysis, and especially qualitative coding. Cameron is also honored to be a part of the Project ECHO hub team in the self-advocate role as an autistic individual, and looks forward to being able to do more self-advocate work through their roles. They hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience from Duke University and a Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
